From the very beginning, Wonderland has been highly involved in the retreading industry. It was in 1980 that we began investing in precure retreading, leading to rapid growth reaching as far as South Holland, IL.
Eighteen years later in 1998, we incorporated AcuTread® precision mold cure retreading into our manufacturing process. The AcuTread Segmented Mold Cure Process was first designed by a fellow independent retreader Bob Majewski in 1994. The AcuTread® process was a huge innovative development that we were eager to be a part of. Shortly after this shift to mold cure retreading, we became partners with Bob Majewski in forming the AcuTread Alliance Group (AAG). This group was formed to develop the AcuTread® process further to bring an unparalleled remanufactured tire to the market and bring profitability to independent retreaders.
Since its early developments nearly 30 years ago, AcuTread® has come a long way, producing one of the most uniform and consistent finished products on the market today.
Wonderland Tire eventually acquired the AcuTread® Process in 2014 to further promote its growth. And in March of 2021, Wonderland Tire added Sumerel Tire Service Inc., Hancock County Tire, and Wilson County Tire & Retreading to the family.
On April 8 we celebrated 25 years of the AcuTread® process at Wonderland Tire! In our first year of AcuTread production, we were proud to manufacture 8,000 remanufactured tires—since then, we’ve manufactured 100 times that amount across all of our locations!
And it's thanks to the superior AcuTread® product and process being utilized and sold in our stores that Modern Tire Dealer honors us as the 28th top retreader in the U.S.! Don’t miss us on the cover of the April 2023 publication!
Each April, Modern Tire Dealer ranks the “Top 50 Retreaders in the U.S.” based on the average amount of tread rubber used to retread different types of tires. MTD rewards one point for every seven points of rubber used per retread. Each light truck tire retread equals 1.7 points, each truck tire retread equals 3.5 points, and each OTR retread equals 46 points. (The point total does not include industrial tires)
